You’re probably not from the era in which it this was published. They had different beauty standards back then. She would have been a real hottie of the day.
I’d amend that “miserability” factor; I’ve struggled through some pretty misery-inducing books.
Well, if you can’t have any nookie and instead have to spend your nights with pulp novels, you also have to talk yourself into liking it… somehow.
