Yep. Back then they believed that sunlight was healthy for a baby, and he/she should get plenty of it. They also recommended setting the crib by the window and leaving the window open (but not for too long!) so the baby could get some fresh air during the winter months, and letting the baby lie out on a blanket in direct sunlight during the summer months.
Humor columnist James Lileks had this picture, or a similar one, about this device in his book “Mommy Knows Worst”. He had mentioned that sales dropped drastically after the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
Hmm, you may have a point… unless the baby had a bad experience while being exposed to heights, there shouldn’t be any reason to develop a phobia or a negative association with it.

Babies do need sunlight. And so do adults. It’s how we get vitamin D.

since childhood was out in height it got used to it =i
