PSA: Fun In Advertising

*Warning: not safe for work – 3 seconds of really, really hard to see soapy bewbs!

Here’s an interesting take on old timey ads, courtesy of an unknown ad agency circa 1965. Apparently it was a gag reel circulated in-house, poking fun at themselves and all the magical ways to pitch products on television. Enjoy!

Love it! I love vintage ads + rifftrax type humor. That an ad company could poke such fun at itself, it’s great!

  2. Kathrein says:

    That is AWESOME!

Is that for real? I didn´t know that they could be so sarcastic and funny back then.

    • Caitlin says:

People have been sarcastic, funny and satirising of their culture probably since we had language. It’s just, because it’s humour, it often doesn’t survive.

  3. Bee says:

Parody and satire is of all ages and it (almost) never ceases to be funny!

  4. NolaJane says:

    That was hilarious!

Pretty sure the blonde in the tub is Bonnie Sharie.

OH it is totally real I have no problems believing it. I mean look at the June Cleaver actress and how she took to cursing Jive in Airplane! and making fun of herself on Rosanne. THey knew how silly it was at the time, and modern advertisers and marketers know our own silly catchstereotypes, even if they are different from then. As for risque, there are lots of sneaky little jokes from live TV that weren’t shown on camera, though sometimes you saw the actors react.

This. Is. HILARIOUS! WIN! I wish I could download this and save it forever and forever.

DownloadHelper add-on in Mozilla firefox will allow you to download and save it forever. Provided you pay the owner their fee of course ;-)

Oh that’s a riot! Love the little black girl popping up from behind the couch — “…but they’re not stuffy.” Hmm..

Speaking of Hmm….I may be very much mistaken, but the announcer sounded a bit like Stan Freberg. That kind of humor was right up his alley. Wouldn’t be surprised if that was his work.

  8. NT121784 says:

    God damnit, CUT!
    CLASSIC!

  9. Main Event Jobber says:

..the Eyebrow-less kids creep me out.. Still, lol on the fact that even ppl in the 60′s are also aware on how ridiculous it was (until now) for ppl in toothbrush/paste ads to only brush their front teeth up and down.

  10. Thank you so much for sharing this. Bwhahahahaha!

  11. CurlyB says:

Pretty sure the hard to see soapy bewbs are also covered by a 1950s swimsuit. >.>

    • schwarherz says:

nope…in context the announcer talks about how she bathes in a swimsuit then she sits up, showing she’s not, followed by “Cut, damnit cut!”

  12. robin says:

If I didn’t know better, Id say cliche Dad was Kelsey Grammar.
