Photo Collection: Addictive Japanese Ads

This is a collection of really cool Japanese cigarette and alcohol ads from 1894 through 1954. Images featured here on HistoricLOLs are listed chronologically and in descending order, starting with the awesome cigarette smoking Pegasus published in 1902, and ending with the bottle cap bomber published in 1938. Pink Tentacle features more ads for everyone interested, I just grabbed a few I thought were cool or interesting to share. Enjoy!

    Isn’t the one with the sumo men in Chinese?

    yup, so is the fifth one. but then again, they do use chinese characters for certain words in japan.

    Actually those were both Japanese Ads, its just that back then the Kanji (the symbols shared in both japan and china) were a little different from the ones used today and they were much more prominent compared to Hiragana (a broken form of the symbols used much more often today).
